COPY OF ORIGINAL MINUTES OF INAUGURAL MEETING OF CLUB 30/11/1972 (Copied from original Minute Book)

The meeting to form a garden club was opened by the convener of the meeting Mr. A. J. Beckmore at 8.05pm. on Thursday 30th. November 1972.

Those in attendance were:- Mr. & Mrs. A. Keep, Mrs. L. Davis, Mr. & Mrs. M. Walker, Mr. J. W. Ireland, Mr. & Mrs. MacQueen, Mrs. Johns, Mrs. Palmer, Mr. & Mrs. Barnett.

After a brief outline of events leading up to the meeting by Mr. Beckmore, Mr. Walker moved "that a garden club be formed." The motion was seconded by Mrs. Keep, and the meeting adopted the motion unanimously.

Mr. Beckmore was nominated by Mr. Ireland, seconded by Mr. Keep, to be the Chairman. There were no other nominations and Mr. Beckmore was declared elected.

Mrs. Johns was nominated by Mrs. Davis, seconded by Mrs. Ireland, to be Secretary. There were no other nominations and Mrs. Johns was declared elected.

Mrs. Keep was nominated by Mrs. Barnett, seconded by Mrs. MacQueen, to be Treasurer. There were no other nominations and Mrs. Keep was declared elected.

Discussion followed as to the form the meetings were to take, the constitution and the meeting place. A name for the club was also considered.

It was moved by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mr. Barnett that the name of the club br "The Fairfield and District Garden Club". The meeting voted unanimously in favour of this name.

Discussion followed on the ways of raising funds. Some methods suggested were - Raffles, entry fees for monthly competitions, and an annual fee.

Mr. Ireland moved that the yearly fees be $1.00 per family. The year to commence from the first meeting in January. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Johns and carried by the meeting unanimously.

It was decided to leave the arrangements for the next meeting in the hands of the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

The meeting closed at approximately 10.00pm.
